On Mission – August

The Other Side of Fiji

Most people hear about Fiji and think of getting away to relax on a beautiful beach at an expensive resort.  While this is true, would you believe that the Lord has a mission for CFBC to accomplish on the less glamorous and often forgotten side of the Fiji Islands?

The indigenous population of Fiji are among some of the poorest on the planet, and have a strong religious tradition of superstition and tribal religion, which means they live life with a great amount of uncertainty and fear.

Can you imagine their shock when people show up from the United States not to be served, but to serve them?  For the last 3 years, CFBC has partnered with the Fiji Kinde Project to bring hope to Fijian families by praying for their communities and showing love to their children.  Each year, our team prepares a week of Bible lessons so that the children can come and learn about how much Jesus loves them while they do crafts and play games.  Continue to pray for the people of Fiji as the Holy Spirit works among them, and pray for our Fiji mission team going to serve there in September.  To learn more about this trip or the Fiji Kinde Project, call the Missions Office. 281-885-6705

Helping Houston’s Refugees

Within the last few years, our city has become the most ethnically diverse city in the United States.  In a very large way, this is due to Houston’s status as a refugee city.  Houston is home to thousands of refugees from countries like Somalia, Bhutan, Iran and Syria. When they arrive here, they do so with barely more than the clothes on their back and a huge need for community and care!

On Wednesday, September 9 in AE 108 at 6:45pm, a representative from one of Houston’s refugee aid agencies will be here to talk to us more about how our church can serve.  To register for this meeting, please call the Missions Office.

Mentoring with KidsHope USA

You may have more time than you think to make a huge and much-needed impact in the life of a child!  This fall, CFBC is starting an exciting new partnership with KidsHope USA, an organization whose goal is to get members of local churches into local elementary schools through weekly, one-on-one mentoring.

For this coming school year, we are pleased to announce that we will be sending mentors from our congregation to both Reynolds Elementary in Spring ISD, as well as Schultz Elementary in Klein ISD.

The program asks that mentors commit to an hour a week for an entire school year.  During this hour, they will be able to work with children in areas they are struggling with their schoolwork, as well as help tend to their social and emotional needs.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can serve as a mentor in our local schools, we would like to invite you to an informative lunch at 12:15 on August 30 in room KB 100.  You will get to hear from the school principals and meet the directors for each campus program, as well as hear details and get signed up. If you plan to attend, please let us know by calling the Missions Office!

El Salvador 2015

This November, a group from our Hispanic Ministry will be going on mission to Apopa, El Salvador.  For the last several years, we have had a strong partnership with Pastor Nieto in Apopa, and have sent teams to assist his congregation there in reaching out to its community. This year’s team will get the chance to help many families in the community through providing basic items like food to homes who would otherwise be in need.  They will also serve local families through providing basic healthcare as well as hygiene training.  Please be in prayer for this team that, as they meet basic needs, hearts would be opened and opportunities would arise for them to share the truth about Jesus Christ.  Pray that the Lord would use our efforts to grow his Kingdom in El Salvador.  To learn more about this trip, please contact us in the Missions Office.

 Life Groups on Mission

Last week, each life group leader received a booklet describing each of the mission trips and local service opportunities for the coming year.  We would love to help you get more involved with any of them! If your life group would like to know more about how to pray for or go to any of these international or local opportunities, or if you would like a representative from the missions staff to come by your group and share more information, please do not hesitate to call us!  We would welcome the chance to help you get more plugged in!
