On Mission – February 2015

“On Mission” is the monthly Missions newsletter of Champion Forest Baptist Church. We welcome you to another year of joining us on God’s mission of growing His Kingdom. In 2014, we saw the Lord move mightily through our missions efforts with over 20 partnerships in the United States and across the globe, and many service opportunities here in our own city. We are confident that he will do the same this year!

Please use this newsletter as a way to keep yourself and your Life Group informed of upcoming mission trips and service projects in which you can be involved. You will also hear missionary prayer needs along with wonderful testimonies of everything the Lord is using our church to accomplish in our city, our country, and around the world! “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” We thank you for joining us as a worker in the kingdom and mission of God – it’s going to be a great year!

Calling All Life Groups!

Life Groups at CFBC have the opportunity to participate in something called Mission Link – a program in which each class is able to adopt both a local service project and a national or global mission trip to pray for, give to, or go to! We would love to help your Life Group learn more about all available mission opportunities and get involved. To learn more about the process of registering your Life Group with Mission Link, call the Mission office (281-885-6784).

Starting the Year Off Right!

By the time you receive your copy of “On Mission,” the first mission team of the year will have returned from Sao Paulo, Brazil. On this trip, our team shared the gospel with children in an underprivileged neighborhood and encouraged a local congregation. We were able to speak the truth of the gospel to families who are surrounded by drugs and violence and entrenched in Spiritist beliefs.

The Lord worked mightily through our team, and 6 people rededicated their lives to serving Jesus Christ!

Our Brazil team is just one team of many that are going out at the beginning of 2015 to Brazil, New Orleans, Round Rock, and our Muslim people group in South Asia. If your Life Group would like to learn more about how to pray for one of these teams, please let us know. Also, there are plenty of spaces available on all trips throughout 2015, so please do not hesitate to sign up at the Mission Booth, or call Pam Dodson in the Missions office at 281-885-6705.

Making a Difference Among Houston’s Homeless

Every Saturday morning without fail, volunteers from CFBC’s homeless ministry – Champions 4 Hope – meet at the Multi- Purpose Building and load up vehicles full of food, clothing and other necessary items. They spend hours doing ministry among the homeless within the shadow of our steeple. Their mission is simple – to hand out hot, home-cooked meals to those they see, pray with them, and give them opportunities to get off the street.

Founded 5 years ago, Champions 4 Hope has helped a total of 30 people get off of the street and into homes, programs, or jobs, simply from showing them the love of Christ and letting them know that there is a church full of people who care for them. The ministry is always in need of willing hands or donations of food and clothing. For more information on how you can help, call the Missions office or simply show up at 9:30am on any Saturday, willing to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ!

Prayer Volunteers Needed

Are you looking for a ministry opportunity that is close to home? Look no further! Every Sunday morning during the 9:30 service, we are in need of volunteers to answer calls and pray with callers on the Broadcast Prayer Line. These callers are able to watch our sermons as they are broadcast throughout the country. Volunteers work on a monthly rotation schedule, and should be able to listen well and pray over the many needs of those calling in. For more information on this ministry, or to get added into the prayer volunteer rotation, please call the Missions office (281-885-6784).

Reaching the Unreached

CFBC is committed to doing our part to fulfill The Great Commission. Because of this, in 2012 we adopted an Unreached People Group through the International Mission Board and are committed to working among them until they are reached with the gospel. An Unreached People Group, or UPG, is any ethnic group in which less than .2% of the population has ever heard the name of Jesus Christ. Our group of 2 million people follows Islam and is located in a mega-city in South Asia. Work among them includes teaching Bible classes at a school twice a year, prayer walking Muslim districts, and sharing Christ in Muslim marketplaces within the city. Over the last two years, the Lord has been faithful to bring several to a saving faith in Jesus Christ and has raised up local believers to continue the work! Pray for a continued harvest among them! If you are interested in more information about praying or being part of a mission team to South Asia, call the Missions Office (281-885-6705).

Christmas for Haiti – All Year Long

It happens every December – a mountain of shoeboxes pile up in the Atrium, ready to be sent to children in Haiti. In fact, this last year, you provided thousands of Haitian children with a Christmas Shoebox gift. But did you know that Christmas in Haiti begins in January? Every Wednesday, a group of ladies meets from 12pm-3pm in the LE Atrium to sew dresses so little girls in Haiti can have new clothes. They also meet from 12pm-3pm on the 2nd Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday of every month. As the fall approaches, they meet several times to wrap the thousands of shoeboxes and sort and inspect gifts as they come in. As you can imagine, it is a huge task! Help is always needed and appreciated. If you are interested in a close-to-home mission project with a very far-reaching impact, feel free to show up in the LE Atrium at 12 on Wednesdays! Call us beforehand so we can have enough supplies for you to work with!
